ABOUT ME

I am a 3rd year UCLA student currently pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. I am passionate about all things engineering, with particular interests in automotive, sustainable design and renewable energy. I enjoy the satisfaction and excitement that comes with transforming an idea or concept into reality, and my goal as an engineer is to use this passion to design sustainable technologies that improves lives.

I am currently seeking an engineering internship for Summer 2022 (June to September), and welcome any chance to discuss an internship opportunity! I have full work authorisation in the US through CPT, and have full working rights in Australia and New Zealand.

MY EXPERIENCE

Bruin Formula Racing SAE

I have held several positions in UCLA’s Formula SAE team. I am the current Controls Manufacturing Lead and CAD Training Lead for the team, and will become the Controls Lead Design Engineer this upcoming academic year (2022 – 2023).

My involvement in projects in Formula SAE has given me invaluable experience in applying concepts I’ve learned from class, such as statics and structures, into my work. Here is a summary of my achievements so far in Formula SAE:

  • Controls Manufacturing Lead – as this year’s manufacturing lead for the Controls subteam, I am responsible for manufacturing and assembling critical components for the car, including the pedal box, mechanical shifter and the brake lines. I have gained shop experience through the use of a manual mill and lathe, and have created 2D part and assembly drawings for components that needed to be manufactured off-site.

  • Powertrain Subteam Member – I redesigned the vehicle’s engine mounting system during my time on the Powertrain subteam. I applied statics and solid mechanics concepts from class to help determine the optimal geometry for the engine mounts, and worked together with two other team members to perform static FEAs to validate the design and ensure it could withstand the expected loads on the mounts.

  • CAD Training Lead – My role as the CAD Training Lead is to ensure that new members of Bruin Racing learn the fundamentals of CAD prior to beginning projects for the team. I taught CAD fundamentals in SolidWorks, ranging from 2D drawings to 3D modelling and assemblies to an introduction to Finite Element Analysis (FEAs). I redesigned the training curriculum from scratch, using my own experience as a first year to create a five sets of comprehensive lecture notes to supplement weekly CAD lectures. My focus is to ensure that new members have all the resources they need to succeed in the club by helping them develop their technical skills.

Currently Learning

I am current developing my skills and knowledge in:

  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • MATLAB/Simulink
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
